Easter basket fillers

by Gift Basket Ideas on October 12, 2009

Easter is a time that is enjoyed by everyone. The weather is usually delightful, and the flowers are in bloom. Children have recovered from spring break and are looking forward to their summer vacations that are just around the corner. Somewhere in the traditions that we created for Easter, the Easter basket was brought to life. Now there are children all over the world who expect to wake up to something left by a mythical creature that surely is friends with the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus.

However, many parents are conflicted by what to buy their children for Easter. After all the holiday is not supposed to be about gifts, and it is not centered around the material like Christmas or a birthday, so what is appropriate and what is lavish for a child to wake up to?

The key to presenting a gift to your child at Easter is to remember that whatever you present the first year that memory withstands, the rest of the years will be filled with the past expectations to be filled. There is nothing wrong with filling a basket full of candies, or a card with some stickers. You may be surprised at what a child will be happy with, and what they truly do expect on this holiday. Often times adults will be the ones who will take the filling of the Easter basket far and beyond what it probably should be. However, if your child has had his or her heart set on a particular toy, it is not unreasonable to allow the Easter Bunny to give them their special requests. Although you should be aware that toys and their prices will vary to staggering degrees. Some toys are obvious birthday gifts, while others are fine for the smaller holidays. Many parents will abide by the rule that as long as a gift fits inside the basket, it is allowed. Be careful with a rule like this though because you will be amazed at what can fit in such a small space. A book on Easter is another choice of gift that is beneficial to a child as well as a parent. A book can be read by the entire family to one another as well as promote the love of reading that so many children of today are lacking.

Whatever you decide to put into your child’s basket, make sure that the idea of Easter is not lost. Easter is not supposed to be about magical, oversized rabbits, or about what gifts are given on that special day.
